MUST-SEE SPOTS!

  • Molo Audace is very peaceful spot, right in the city center and next to the sea. Perfect for watching the sunset with your friends or partner, having a walk, chatting, eating ice-creams and enjoying the view of the main square Piazza Unità. During the summer I highly recommend you to drink a glass of vine with your fiends next to Molo Audace.

  • Miramare castle and Park. That’s definitely one of the best places to visit in Trieste, unfortunately the Park nowadays is not taken care of properly, but still there are some unique spots where you can see beautiful plants, fountains and an amazing view on the sea. Miramare Castle was even visited once by Princess Sissi.
  • The “Tram de Opcina”- an historical tram going to Opicina, climbing the hill and making his passenger enjoy a wonderful view. Definitely worth seeing! In Opicina you can try delicious Italian vine with some Italian cheese and prosciutto – it’s excellent!

  • Via XX Settembre – nice place to have a walk a bit further from the city centre. It is a wide street where you can find various shops, incudling nice gelatteria and local shops. If you feel like partying with locals it’s a place to go, there are a few clubs there. In December Via XX Settembre literally becomes a Christmas market during the weekends – probably not as big as in other Europeans cities, but still quite impressive.

MUST-TRY FOOD

  • Gelato! Italian ice-creams are one of the best ice-creams in the whole world. Seriously, you need to try them. There’s nice Gelateria in Piazza Unita where you can find lots of flavours for everybody – our favourite is Nutella – so delicious, you don’t want it to end. Grab an ice-cream cone and have a walk in Molo Audace, it’s so close to Piazza Unita and the view is amazing.

  • Presnitz: it’s a delicious cake baked for the first time for Princess Sissi – White Spritz: it is actually only white wine and sparkling water but it is the typical “aperitivo” for people from Trieste.
  • Prosciutto cotto tagliato a mano: it is cooked ham cut by hand. You can find it in some traditional restaurant, osmiza (a typical tavern where they sell mainly wine, cured mests, eggs and other home made products) or in supermarkets

MUST KNOW TIPS

Or anything you must watch out for when visiting Trieste

Be aware that Italian cuisine might not be the best here, typical dishes are mainly from Austria and the Balkans. Don’t worry though, you still find amazing pizzerias in Trieste!

Trieste is a beautiful city, but it’s quite small. So instead of taking buses you can easily walk almost everywhere in the city centre to admire the beautiful architecture.

Climb the hill to the cathedral and visit the bell tower for a wonderful view. Visit the ruins of the old Roman ampitheater (between an apartment building and a supermarket).
